MATA HARI:
Born in 1876, Margaretha Geertruida Zelle was a Dutch dancer and courtesan who performed under the name Mata Hari. During World War I, Mata Hari was recruited as a spy for the French in exchange for permission to visit her lover, a Russian soldier who was wounded by the Germans in the war. However, she was accused of being a double agent for the Germans and, though it is still unclear if these accusations were true, she was executed by a firing squad in 1917.
